Effectiveness data for a new breed of alcohol hand sanitizer was presented earlier this month to a group of foodservice and hospitality professionals in Europe. This information is not yet available in the USA but the patent-pending formulation appears to be 3 times more effective on norovirus compared to basic alcohol versions.
Speculation suggests this is a commercilization of the laboratory work done at Emory University, the basis of Dr. Christine Moe’s recieving an NSF Food Safety Leadership award earlier this year. A similar product was spotted in test at a major hotel/casino in Las Vegas and at a cruise line – two major segments that have endured million dollar losses from this 30 nanometer virus.
For anyone interested in learning more about the European product please contact me and I will seek to connect you with appropriate laboratories and possible sourcing information.
