High marks for speed but low on care
The often mind numbing rush of caregivers in hospitals and long-term care has eclipsed common sense when using hand sanitizers. Caregivers have adapted to the pressures to use so often by using too little too fast.
There is now a new Hand-Sanitizer Training Gel that personalizes and visualizes the dangers of a “Rub ’n Run” technique. This GlitterBug product has the feel of a hand sanitizer but contains a florescent tracing agent. We recommend each caregiver first applies a little as they normally do. Then, with the aid of a UV light, the trainee will clearly see areas covered as they will glow bright green, indicating the active germ killing zones. The non-treated areas continue as islands for pathogens.
Next, apply the Training Gel as it should be, both in amount and spread for total coverage. The results can now be scored using the ProGrade template, the same one use to score good handwashing. This whole exercise is quick and effective.
